Pharaoh ants are among the smallest ant species. They are approximately 1.5 to 2mm long and are a very light yellow or reddish brown, making them very hard to spot when they’re alone. They love a humid, warm climate, and you can often find them in kitchens or bathrooms. Pharaoh ants flourish in the South Florida environment, and can reproduce very rapidly, making them quite the nuisance.

These foragers are mostly attracted to sweet, sugary substances. Their dietary habits have earned them their secondary name: sugar ants. They can be very difficult to remove, and create a nest chain, or a colony, that can invade a home. The most common way of fending off pharaoh ants is through baiting techniques. Liquid or gel baits can attract worker ants, which will poison them and make it difficult for the colony to sustain itself.

Pharaoh ants can be incredibly difficult to get rid of, and they seem like a pest that always comes back. It’s not uncommon for homeowners to struggle to get rid of pharaoh ants, so it’s often best to contact a South Florida pest control professional for any needed assistance.
